About the Role
Ironclad Defense Works is seeking an experienced Senior Contractor Support Specialist to provide internal audit support for NATO’s Allied Command Transformation (ACT) Office of Internal Audit. This role is crucial in ensuring compliance, risk assessment, process evaluation, and operational effectiveness within NATO’s financial, administrative, and operational structures.
The selected candidate will be responsible for enhancing NATO’s internal audit functions by assisting in risk-based assessments, process evaluations, fraud detection, and financial integrity reviews. This position requires a high degree of professionalism, analytical expertise, and knowledge of NATO’s financial and governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk-based internal audits to evaluate NATO’s compliance with financial and operational policies.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management strategies, and governance frameworks.
  • Identify vulnerabilities, inefficiencies, and areas for process improvement within NATO’s financial management and operational procedures.
  • Ensure NATO’s financial transactions and reporting structures align with international auditing standards and best practices.
  • Assist in developing and implementing audit methodologies that enhance NATO’s internal review processes.
  • Review contracts, procurement activities, and financial management policies for compliance with NATO regulations.
  • Support fraud detection initiatives by analyzing financial records, monitoring transactions, and identifying irregularities.
  • Recommend corrective actions and best practices to improve accountability and transparency.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports, executive summaries, and risk assessment briefings for NATO leadership.
  • Provide policy recommendations and procedural enhancements to improve NATO’s internal audit frameworks.
  • Collaborate with NATO’s Office of Internal Audit to align audit strategies with NATO’s overall risk management objectives.
  • Participate in strategic planning meetings, audits, and compliance reviews to support NATO’s transformation initiatives.
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in internal auditing, risk assessment, or financial compliance.
  • Strong understanding of international accounting and auditing standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP, NATO financial regulations).
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, fraud detection, and operational audits in complex organizations.
  • Knowledge of NATO’s financial systems, governance structures, and internal control frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present findings to senior leadership.
  • Active Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or equivalent auditing certification.
  • Prior experience working with NATO, EU defense institutions, or other multinational organizations.
  • Proficiency in French to support communication with NATO’s international partners.
  • Expertise in forensic auditing, fraud prevention, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with data analytics and digital tools for audit automation and risk assessment.
